What are common traps for aspiring writers?  One of the things I see a lot are writers who set their stories in places they aren’t familiar with.  It happens a lot and they think Google Maps or searches will make up for it.  Unfortunately the story will come out flat.

What is your writing Kryptonite?  A really good series on television.  Once I get hooked on something, I want to see it through to the end and that means I’ll watch TV instead of working.  Right now I’m working and I have one episode of The Night Agent to go.  I’m making myself work before watching it.

Have you ever gotten reader’s block?  It happens to everyone.  I continue working through it and eventually the ideas start to flow again.  I may need to rework what I did, but it gets me through the slow patch.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?  I try for both.  It’s a balance and I don’t always get it right, but it’s what I always strive for.

Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?  That’s a question I’ve never had before.  Good one.  I really don’t know. I know authors who are amazing who are calm, collected, rather muted emotionally, and yet their writing is stunning.  I think writing is about conveying emotion through words.  That can be two very different things.
